The final stretch of the D8 highway across the České středohoří national park is the final work of a 72-year- old engineer. He would like to finish his grand piece of work to see the opening ceremony, to show it to his grandsons as his legacy to future generations, and to finally retire. However, the 16- kilometers-long stretch of highway takes forever to be finished. Lawsuits follow one another and the national park is crossed not by a stretch of concrete but only by a dotted line in the map. Meadows and plots of land where the builders are yet forbidden to start their works interrupt the few finished pieces of road.
